History of New Bethlehem No. 11
The Lodge was organized in May of 1920 by Rev. B. F. Hall on West Biddle Street in Baltimore, Maryland. Rev. B.F. Hall as its first Worshipful Master. This Lodge has had the honor of having as Worshipful Masters following dynamic leaders; Brothers: Rev. J. W. Harris, Charles Braxton, Allen Ashman, Dallas W. Wright and Robert Melton. In the year of 1967, Brother John V. Thornton succeeded Brother Robert Melton as Worshipful Master. We should pause at this moment to acknowledge that we are proud that one of our Past Masters, Mr. Fraternal Excellence Himself, Brother John V. Thornton became the Honorable Grand Master. After Brother Thornton, New Bethlehem had had the honor of having the following Brothers of great esteem to serve as the Helm; Brothers: George Greenhill, Trust R. Brown, John W. Fisher, Horace L. Love, Keith Collier, Lloyd C. Morse, Jr., Thomas A. Smith, Frank Palmer, Elwood Johnson, Lonnie Hartley, Thomas Green, Edward McLaren, Joe Stokes, Freddie Williams, Henry A. McKnight and Le’Roy Smith-Bey. The recurrent difficulty of maintaining an adequate active
membership still impacts the vitality of the Lodge, but our current members remain as faithfully committed to the Order as our Predecessors. Our faith has
not faltered and we remain united in our belief in the Supreme Architect of the Universe, who is our Eternal God.
