HISTORICAL SKETCH
MT. LEBANON CHAPTER 27
On June 11, 1983, the Grand Deputy, Sister Lucenda Rucker, founder of Mt. Lebanon Chapter met with the Grand Worthy Matron, Sister Mary C. Frazier and three (3) ladies who expressed interest in helping to add another link to the beautiful chain of Naomi Grand Chapter. The attendance of those who had expressed interest in building the Mr. Lebanon Chapter was small on that hot day down in the Grill Room of Hiram Grand Lodge but the Grand Deputy and the Grand Worthy Matron offered words on encouragement, “Set the course and run the race”. It was decided by those present to plan another meeting date and hopefully encourage more to attend.
On July 23, 1983, a meeting was held with Grand Deputy Lucenda Rucker and several interested ladies who had braved the heat of the day to “Set the course and run the race”. At this time, several committees were set up and the Grand Deputy began to mold the strong foundation upon which Mt. Lebanon Chapter was formed.
Strenuous recruiting efforts resulted in fourteen (14) members being initiated on September 9, 1983 in addition to three (3) members who had come from other Chapters.
On October 3, 1983, the Worthy Matron-Elect, Sister Sylvia E. Cornish presided over her first meeting having a total of seventeen (17) members in attendance. Four (4) additional members were initiated on October 9, 1983 in the O.E.S. School of Instruction this giving the Mt. Lebanon Chapter (under dispensation) a total of eighteen (18) members to start in the OES School of Instruction. Due to various circumstances, several members had to discontinue their journey in the O.E.S. School of Instruction.
Due to the strong determination, past experiences and devotion to the Order of Eastern Star by the Grand Deputy Sister Lucenda Rucker, Mt. Lebanon grew from a little seedling into a strong oak, spreading its branches of loving kindness and charity, everywhere within its reach by each one of its twenty-sic (26) members.
The members of Mt. Lebanon joined hands in accomplishing those tasks that had to be accomplished, climbing those mountains that had to be climbed and facing those obstacles that had to be faced. On March 5, 1984, after careful deliberation and just evaluation by the Grand Worthy Matron, Sister Mary C. Frazier and Officers of Naomi Grand Chapter, the officers and members of Mt. Lebanon were told, “You have set the course, you ran a good race”. We were approved to receive our Charter entitling us to all the rights and privileges of a Constituted Chapter.
On Sunday April 29, 1984, Mt. Lebanon Chapter 27 was constituted and inaugurated. The services were held at the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, 2320 Reisterstown Rd., Baltimore, Maryland.
